The Educator's PLN

The personal learning network for educators

Teachers College Columbia University has developed a set of curriculums that educators might find useful as they prepare for the new academic year.

The first resource, Understanding Fiscal Responsibility, is a curriculum for teaching the federal budget, national debt, and budget deficit. It has lessons and activities for these subject areas: Economics, Civics/Government, US History, World History/Geography and Mathematics. This is a free resource from Teachers College, Columbia University; please share with colleagues who might be interested.

The curriculum (available online and in print) includes:

-24 lessons connecting students to current public policy issues regarding the federal budget, national debt, and budget deficit,

-supporting documents and resources that supplement the lessons,

-the option to create an account and create a site for your classroom in the UFR Network and share your lessons with fellow educators.

The second resource, Pursuing Your Passion-Lessons from YoungArts’ MasterClass, is a study guide designed for educators to integrate the arts into the classroom. This platform allows teachers to:

-Create their own customized curriculum using the lessons and activities available on the site to integrate the arts into the subject areas of the humanities, visual & performing arts and math & science.

-Develop a free website to connect with their students in the Teacher Network.

-Have free access to HBO’s inspirational MasterClass mini-series online.

-Request a free copy of the complete DVD and lessons/study guide.

Please feel free to share these resources with fellow educators and all who might find it useful.
