What would you think about starting a Facebook Page for an elementary school?

The page would be for parents, "alumni," and community members, and would seek to maintain positive relationships outside of the school day with these groups. 

The page would include important dates, links to articles, positive comments, pictures from big school events, reminders for events like picture day, field day, news about teacher grants, etc.

In a district where having a personal Facebook page is generally "frowned upon," do you think it would be a step in the right direction to set up a fully professional, functioning, social media tool for the building?

Please help troubleshoot potential problems.
