The personal learning network for educators

Tomorrow will be my first attempt to skype with another classroom. We are hoping to play pictionary between our classes, but I'm not sure what the most effective set up might be?  We experimented with the document camera, but didn't know how to override the built in camera. Should we simply place the paper infront of the laptop's camera?  Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
thanks!

If it's not a built-in camera you can always turn it around (I'm guessing it is built-in...). But I'm not so sure you need to worry about that; when you play f2f the bodies do all the hiding -why not on Skype? There's whispering, and it'd make it more natural. Perhaps I'm missing something? I've never taught on Skype.

Hi Alison - The only way I've tried it is by holding up a piece of paper in front of the laptop's camera. It has worked just fine for us on both ends of the Skype call. Remind them to hold it still and pause. It helps if the picture/text etc stands (go over pencil with thin tip marker, or make bold lines, or use multiple colors to differentiate.) Have a great time :)
