What Khan and Khan't happen: the future of Math Education in this country

The beginning of the month saw the publication of an insightful and thought provoking post at Mathalicious. This post really probed the conversation around Khan Academy and the changes that this product and platform has brought to the world of math education. While I agree with much of what was written, there are some aspects of the authors claims that I find problematic.…See More

Project Design

The success of any project is largely due to how well it has been thought out.  In drivers ed. one of the few things I remember is the instructor telling me "to plan your route ahead of time, so that you are not making flash decisions while in a moving vehicle surrounded by other moving vehicles doing unpredictable things."  Seemed like very sound advice to a nervous new driver, and a new teacher. Planning my route when it comes to curriculum is something that I have had to do in the past.  I…See More

My newest project

I have recently become more involved in an interesting pilot project that is building off of my summer research. Funded by the Gates Foundation I am embarking on uncovering the nuances of moving towards a Blended integration of technology into a Project Based learning environment. I hope to discover innovative ways to work with teachers and students and I hope that you all will follow and provide feedback throughout the processSee More
