Best story of learning and global collaboration

I think what has helped me in the most positive way is seeing the easy access to global collaboration such as through networks like here at Flat Classrooms and the network I researched - Microsoft Innovative Educators Forum.  I have been truly amazed!  I have also impressed myself in that when I first began the Challenges I was very intimidated.  As I worked through each one, though, I enjoyed seeing my accomplishments.  I have gained confidence.  I know I have much yet to learn, but I feel more prepared and ready to face the challenges that will come.                 Flat Classroom Book Final SurveyThank you for the time you took to enter and complete this survey. You have completed challege #2. Please share your best story of learning and global collaboration and feel free to let us know you finished the book by tweeting to @coolcatteacher and @julielindsay - Thank you and good luck collaborating globally. I use my phone to receive emails that I subscribe to which I learn from on a daily basis.  Some of these include:  Teach Preschool, TeachersPayTeachers, ASCD SmartBrief, ReadWorks, and my Twitter account is also linked to my email for updates.  These include resources and information I can use in the classroom.

Synchronous and Asynchronous Communication Tools

Posted on February 11, 2013 at 1:40am 0 Comments

The synchronous tool I choose to set up was Skype.  I used Skype for the very first time today.  I actually communicated with my Grandmother who lives in Frederick, Maryland.  I was amazed at how easy utilizing Skype was.  Now I am very excited about using Skype for personal and professional means!!  My Skype name is lorienwatson5. The asynchronous tool I set up today was voicethread.  I researched this tool, and found it to be very useful for the classroom.  I commented on a segment about…

What is a mashup?

Posted on February 3, 2013 at 10:34pm 0 Comments

I am currently taking a technology class, and have just joined the PLN.  I am constantly learning new tech lingo, and now am familiar with what a mashup entails.  A combination of video, audio, or pictures makes for a very creative and innovative type of project.  It's great how it is directly tied to Blooms!  The projects can range from the simplest forms of Blooms all the way to the most challenging.

I commented on this post, and then deleted it on accident.  Let's just say I am learning!  I thought there was some very innovative ideas here.  Lore is a social network much like Facebook, but an environment set up where students can feel comfortable and be in a professional atmosphere to interact with other students and teachers.  LessonCast is another technology resource here recommended where teachers can share their knowledge with each other.  I am looking forward to checking it out.  I…

Lessons from the locker room

I've learned two things since I've joined the gym.One-I thought you just had to join a gym. Nope, you have to keep going to the gym. Over and over.Two-you can't rest when you reach a milestone, you always have to try something harder. When I first walked in, I was pretty overwhelmed. There's lots of complicated machines and scary equipment. Everyone there looks like they know what they're doing and they certainly could beat me up. Needless to say, I felt very out of place. The one smart thing I…See More
