Hi all,
I need help collecting data for a student project. My student is looking to see if there is a relationship between the speed someone is traveling on a long board (which is a type of skateboard) and how quickly they can stop.
Please ask them to watch the following video so they get an idea of how it works. They will need to be able to record their own video of themselves and add their data to the form linked…

The activities exposed by Chronicle of Higher Education in the article “
The Shadow Scholar” and the revelation of widespread
cheating at the University of Central Florida are manifestations of values gone awry in our society. These are the values we have embraced and passed on. We talk about how important education is to society, our kids and ourselves. Yet our real beliefs are displayed by our actions, which are…

This is my first blog post on The Educator's PLN ... I thank you for not closing this window!

I am just about finished with my M.Ed. (only two weeks left!) in Curriculum & Instruction - Technology. For my…

In Parts 1 and 2, I discussed the fact that we are losing quality teachers as a result of new teacher burnout as well as retiring experienced teachers. I have shared what I believe to be the personal effects that high teacher turnover has on students who will miss out on the guidance and mentorship I received from past teachers of mine. The impact of losing quality teachers is not only detrimental for our students; it also bears significant financial repercussions for local economies and the…

Let me teach.
I know how to teach..
I have a Masters degree.
I can do more than read from a script.
Trust me.
Let me teach.
I know how kids think.
I've been doing this for 30 years.
I know more than my supervisors.
Trust me.
Let me teach.
I know what's important.
I care about my kids as adults.
I know learning is not reflected in a test score.
Trust me.
Let me teach.
I have a passion for it.…

Can we fire our way to success?Absolutely not. I would love to see how experienced teachers are at non-AYP and
AYP schools, as in the current system, more experienced teachers earn

this is crossposted from Daily Kosis for America to move away from the entire cohort approach to education. The idea of children moving through subjects at the same pace because they happen to be approximately the same age
might be good for the convenience of adults, but has little to do with how our children…

Student Created Readers TheaterI’m trying to create more brain-friendly lessons based on what I am learning in my
BrainSMART classes. One point of research suggests that students do much better when their subjects are integrated as much as possible. That gave me another bright idea……

I think most teachers already realize that it's important to engage their students and that a student's learning engagement actually bumps up student achievement significantly. However, if they are at all like me, then they also need to be reminded of what works for kids. What is the best way to be reminded of this? By asking kids! Find out how kids best learn by asking the kids. What an amazing concept, eh?
I was fortunate enough to be part of a "Look to Learn"…

In an earlier post, I discussed the tendency of new educators to leave the teaching profession in the infancy of their careers and asked why and what can be done to support new teachers. New teacher burnout isn’t the only cause of high turnover in today’s schools: Thousands of baby boomer teachers are at retirement-age. Schools are now faced with the problem of replacing younger new teachers as well as retiring experienced teachers.…

Half of new U.S. teachers are likely to quit the profession within the first five years, according to a 2006
study from the National Education Association. One-third of all public school teachers leave the profession within the first three years, states the documentary First Year Teaching. According to the NFLPA, the average career of an NFL player is three and a half seasons. We are replacing teachers faster than football teams are replacing linebackers!…

By Carlos Biscay (director of e-ABC)

Some years ago, when the online training began to consolidate as a global industry and the first high impact implementations began to develop in Latin America, Elliot Masie, founder of The MASIE Center and the Online Learning Council, emphasized the close relationship between competitiveness and virtual education. Besides stressing the important role that this type of training started to have in different…
