Teaching as a Gladiator Sport

(C) Julie Boyd

“Why are you crying miss?” Every teacher has low points in their professional life but

when it comes in your first month I wonder if things really have changed in the past thirty

years.

A young friend has just started in her first teaching position. It’s in a secondary school

that has a reputation for having ‘challenging students’. She was only accepted into… Continue

HIDING IN PLAIN VIEW: Supporting Young Teachers

© Julie Boyd

How many times does it need to be said? Young teachers need our protection?

Of course they absolutely need to learn to stand on their own two feet. Those who are

game enough to take on our ‘more challenging schools’ need a bit of extra protection

until they do find their feet and then some. Some ‘danger money’ wouldn’t go astray

either!

Taken individually, each concept in the phrase “collaborative learning community” has incredible power and together, there is a synergy, a revolutionary force that we are only just beginning to recognize in schools. The school pictured above has given way to a…

Welcome to a new, extensive site for educators

You'll find a very extensive blog and website, including a range of resources for teachers at : www.julieboyd.com.au

This contains information collected over many years of teaching, business experience and community work and advocacy that is being consolidated into one site. It would be great to be able to replicate it here if it could be imported. Can anyone tell me if that is possible?
