It’s resume building time, and when you do something do it properly or rather don’t do it at all. So let’s build the education into your resume and make anyone seem as if they have a doctorate without falsifying any information. There is a finite rule in life and that is, if you know the rules then you know how to bend them and how far you can push before they break. Similarly, your resume is just like a power tool, it has a specific set of guidelines, and once you have those in place and you know the blueprint that works like magic, then you can move the pieces around until you acquire the employer magnet style.

The blueprint before the magic.

  • Why you would be a perfect fit for the company that you are applying to.
  • Who you are
  • Your education
  • Work experience, if any
  • A short piece about you

Now that is almost like the general blueprint that everyone uses, except one difference, it makes your resume about the company that you are applying to, not about you. The magic comes in when you add your education and experiences whilst studying into the introduction, which is about them, not you, but at the same time they are reading about how you are a perfect fit because of your education. You can be a college graduate or have a masters behind your name, it does not matter to your prospective employer. What matters is what you can do for them.

Remember that in the pile of resume’s that prospective employers receive, you have an estimated 6 second time frame to catch their attention. If in the first 6 seconds all they read is your name, date of birth and whether you’re allergic to penicillin or don’t have a driver’s license, you’ve earned a place in the ‘throw away pile’ and there is no returning from there.
