Goodyear STEM Career Day builds on pivotal, national education priorities

Today’s modern world demands minds able to think deeply and well, so the capacity of America’s learners in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) areas is critical. The US Department of Education has responded with programs designed to support STEM learning opportunities. With recognition of the pivotal roles of engineers, innovators, and scientists, American companies also support STEM opportunities. At its 17th annual Goodyear STEM Career Day, as statisticians reported (more at yourhomeworkhelp.org), the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company (more at corporate.goodyear.com) awarded more than $52,000 in grants and scholarships to students and teachers from local high schools and middle schools.

Building insight into STEM careers

More than 2,000 students, accompanied by nearly 500 parents and teachers from across the Northeast Ohio area will visit The University of Akron on February 17th, 2018 for the Goodyear STEM Career Day. At the event, attendees have the opportunity to interact with groups of students, parents, teachers and business leaders from Northeast Ohio. Several universities, along with more than 40 Akron/Cleveland-area corporations, have representatives present for an informational fair and hands-on demonstrations to help students learn more about STEM careers.

Attending students rotate through a series of panel demonstrations conducted by local organizations. Additionally, participants are challenged with a hands-on competition requiring use of engineering acumen to design and build a mechanical system. One of the hands-on activities challenges them to bring a fragile, newly discovered fuel source back to a crashed spaceship, so the team can return home to Earth.

Awards at 17th annual Goodyear STEM Career Day

At the conclusion of the 17th annual Goodyear STEM Career Day, held in the University of Akron’s James A. Rhodes Arena, Joseph Zekoski, Goodyear's Senior Vice President and Chief Technical Officer, will announce grant and scholarship winners.

A national effort

STEM learning equips the nation’s learners with knowledge and skills necessary for savvy participation in today’s world. President Barack Obama has stated, “It is an approach to the world, a critical way to understand and explore and engage with the world, and then have the capacity to change that world.”

Creating important and influential STEM opportunities requires a complex, well-networked national effort. With national focus upon meeting STEM needs, President Barack Obama has indicated, “We will harness the power of science to achieve our goals – to preserve our environment and protect our national security; to create the jobs of the future, and live longer, healthier lives.” Within a vibrant national network of STEM support, the nation’s learners can be equipped with the critical knowledge and skills to analyze and solve complex, contemporary problems.

Use these two words and become a better student

Words are powerful. And you do not only know that since your last exam. A single word can change everything: it can make you the victor, save relationships, calm you down or pull you into the abyss.Finding the right words is an art that not everyone masters. Some use their words inflationary and put one empty phrase to the next. Others put every word on the gold scale and interpret everything possible into what is said. But your choice of words not only affects how other people perceive you. Your…See More

Online Education: Can It Really Replace Learning in Classrooms?

In the modern world education is a part of everyone's life. Even if someone did not graduate from college or finish school, they still learn new skills or just something they are interested in. That can likewise be called education, or, even a more appropriate term is self-education. This concept is closely related to…See More
