Kaizen refers to improvement of both processes and people. For schools, the philosophy of Kaizen aims at improving all aspects for all time. Thus, is it is never good enough and never ending. Kaizen seeks ongoing improvement and change for the better. Schools and teachers should think about how to do it, not why it cannot be accomplished. In implementing Kaizen, schools will have to question current beliefs and practices, and draw upon the knowledge of many not just one. Administrators, teachers, and students should all be working toward the same goals, and sharing ideas and knowledge with one another.

Effective feedback shows where students are in relationship to the learning objectives and what they need to do to get there. It helps students see assignments and tasks as opportunities to learn and grow. Feedback should always be given in a timely and constructive manner and should be encouraging to the student. A teacher can give students timely feedback verbally, and if feedback is given for excellence in a task, she could give it before an audience. Students should also have a way to give feedback to the teacher about what they are learning in class. This should be accomplished in a private manner such as an anonymous survey. Finally, teachers should be able to provide feedback to project organizers and administrators. This should also be done in a private and anonymous manner.

In finishing, reflecting, and celebrating a project, students will have a sense of appreciation for the accomplishments of themselves, others, and their teachers. They will take future tasks more seriously and understand the work involved. Finishing projects help students learn how to manage their time wisely and develop the importance of reaching goals. Furthermore, in finishing a project, student will have a sense of accomplishment. This will help to build their self-esteem and pride for the next assignment or project. Students will also become more independent and able to work as part of a team. These characteristics are all beneficial for meeting the challenges in a global economy.

Involving students in planning will engage them in their own learning. It will also allow them to take responsibility for their own learning. When they are offered input, students are generally excited and are willing to work harder. By allowing students to have a voice in their own experiences in the classroom and share their ideas, activities become more relevant and enjoyable for them.
