The Educator's PLN

The personal learning network for educators

Since I am a learning support teacher/special educator, I have been exploring iPads and iPhone apps as a means of assistive technology for students with disabilities. I have been searching for apps with specific goals in mind such as reading comprehension and fluency, written expression, mathematics, transition, etc. What apps would you use with your students?

Hi Sasha:

When I teach about the Great Depression I have the students do a stock market project to learn about how stock works.  The students invest "$10,000" in stock in companies of their choice.  The students use a Stock Market App on their IPods/IPads to keep track of the value of their stock and use math skills to determine a profit or loss of their investment, some of which are very extensive.  They use apps such as Yahoo Finance or CNBC Real Time. It may seem really basic but it works very well!
